Establishment

The establishment of the Sustainable Occupational Safety and Health Research Centre (SOSHRC) was borne out of a passion for distinct areas of sustainability, namely: Human, Social, Economic and Environment.

The Centre focuses on both applied and theoretical research relating to Sustainable, Occupational Safety and Health Research with the specific aim of curbing unsustainable and persistent occupational safety fatalities and ill health.

Working alongside high-risk and high-reliability industries, the Centre key mission is to create safer, sustainable, and environmentally conscious workplaces that contribute to long-term benefits to both employees and organisations.

To lead and deliver multidisciplinary research and professional consultancy services that proffer sustainable solutions to occupational health and safety challenges across high-risk industries.

Our Vision

To be a leading international Research Centre that provides practical and value-driven solutions to prevention of adverse workplace safety incidents and occupational ill-health.

Aim & Purpose

The overarching aim of the Centre is:

  • To proactively contribute to curbing persistent occupational safety fatalities and ill-health via applied research outputs, training and consultancy services.
  • To consistently produce quality research outputs, that contributes to reduction of occupational adverse safety and ill health.
  • To create safer, sustainable, and environmentally conscious workplaces that contribute to long-term benefits to both workers and organisations.

SOSHRC is part of the University of East London (UEL) Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability (RDCS), a regional hatchery for innovation, skills and enterprise that supports sustainable and resilient research

The SOSHRC aligns seamlessly with the University of East London’s overarching vision as a beacon of academic excellence and sustainability. The Research Centre is committed to UEL’s sustainability agenda, which aims to create sustainable communities, reduce inequalities, and transform the health and well-being of people.
